Haematology and Transfusion Department

The Haematology Laboratory provides a 24-hour service for routine and urgent testing. It provides full blood counts and blood films to assist in the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of various conditions/disorders. The laboratory offers HbA1c testing for the diagnosis and monitoring of diabetes. The laboratory also provides additional tests to identify specific conditions such as glandular fever screening, sickle screening, G6PD deficiency and malaria screening.

The department is a high prevalence testing laboratory for the Antenatal, Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Screening programme and offers specialist Markers and Molecular haematology testing.
